With 60% of the population under the age of 30, the Arab Region holds great opportunities for the future. Yet, despite the Arab Spring and overall improvement of the Human Development Index in the past 30 years, youth face major challenges including in security, unemployment, and failure of governance structures. The Arab Human Development Report (AHDR) 2016 concludes that Arab countries can achieve a significant leap forward in development, reinforce stability and secure such gains in a sustainable manner, if they urgently prioritize adopting policies that ensure the well-being, productivity, self-determination and good citizenship of their young population.
Join UNDP sponsored local young leaders and the lead author of the AHDR 2016, Dr. Adel Abdellatif in a conversation about the outlook for the Arab Region towards empowering the youth to drive its development.
Speaker:
Dr. Adel M. Abdellatif; Senior Strategic Adviser, Regional Bureau for the Arab States, United Nations Development Programme
