With Keynote Speakers:

Ghirmai Negash is Professor of English & Postcolonial Literatures and the Director of the African Studies Program at Ohio University. He is the founding-editor of the Modern African Writing Series, Ohio University Press; former founding-chair of the Department of Eritrean Languages and Literature, Asmara University; former President of PEN-Eritrea in exile; and past convener of the African Literature Association (ALA 2011). 

Professor Negash will speak on Friday at 1:30 pm on the following topic: "Becoming Better Eagles: Lessons for the Postcolonial Unconscious of African Languages."

Fallou Ngom is Professor of Anthropology and Director of the African Language Program at Boston University. His research interests include the interactions between African languages and non-African languages, the adaptations of Islam in sub-Saharan Africa, and Ajami literatures-records of African languages written in Arabic script. He seeks to understand the knowledge buried in African Ajami literatures and the historical, social, cultural, and religious heritage that has found expression in this manner. 

Professor Ngom will deliver the second keynote speech on Saturday at 10:00 am on the following topic: "The African Library, the Europhone, and the non- Europohone Intellectuals"
