Join the Middle East Institute and David Brophy (Columbia University) for a discussion on the life and work of Saʿid al-ʿAsali’, a Muslim scholar who moved between the Ottoman Empire and China in the first decades of the 20th century and authored the little known work The Law of China (1905). The talk will provide an analysis of the work as a unique moment of intellectual exchange between late Ottoman-Islamic reformist circles and the revitalized Confucianism of the late Qing.
