Call for Participation: Workshops on Research Ethics in the Middle East and North Africa

Launching the Special Commission on Ethics and Social Science Research in the Middle East and North Africa

This project, led by Lisa Anderson (dean emerita, Columbia University) and Saloua Zerhouni (professor, Mohammed V University and president of the Rabat Social Studies Institute), is dedicated to mobilizing an interdisciplinary network of academics, researchers and practitioners to assess the landscape of social science research conducted in the Arab world and develop guidelines for the conduct of responsible, ethical and constructive social inquiry. Learn more about this project here.

The project will be launched through a series of conversations on different thematic issues. We are currently inviting interested individuals to participate in these discussions on the ethical, political and economic challenges to conducting research responsibly. Our first workshops will be held virtually during the winter of 2020-21. 

GET INVOLVED:

We seek collaborators with experience conducting research in the region, including students, professors, consultants, journalists, policy analysts, librarians, archivists and others, who are concerned about the context in which they work, including the ethical implications of research agendas, methods, funding, institutional contexts and more.

This commission is established under the auspices of the Middle East Institute at Columbia University, in collaboration with the Columbia Global Centers in Amann and Tunis, the American University of Cairo, the Rabat Social Studies Institute, and the Arab Council for the Social Sciences.
