Irish journalist Patrick Cockburn worked as the Financial Times' Middle East correspondent since 1979 and is currently writing for the London-based, The Independent.
Recipient of the Martha Gellhorn Prize in 2005, the James Cameron Prize in 2006 and the Orwell Prize for Journalism in 2009, he is also the author of four books on Iraq's recent history.
