"This thesis proposes that the American Muslim can realize an indigenizing and legitimizing Islamic identity in America without extraneous religious meddling. In advancing this premise, I do not argue against the corpus juris extracted from the Qur'an and Prophet Muhammad's Sunnah, or the compendium of fourteen centureis of legal rulings constituting Islam's intellectual legacy. I argue actually for the engagement of the Islamic legal tradition, which can respond positively to address unique religio-social challenges of indigenous Muslims of America."
